Today, 241 beneficiaries from Nyamiseke village gathered in Mubuga sector for a comprehensive training on modern agriculture. Organized in partnership with the Suyana Foundation under the Village of Hope project, the session focused on three key topics: crop rotation, land use, land preparation and seeds selection.

The training aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge to improve productivity and adopt sustainable farming practices. Participants expressed that the session had broadened their understanding and inspired them to make positive changes in their farming methods.

Mukamisha Placidie shared her reflection:

“I used to think frequent, shallow plowing was the most efficient method, but I’ve learned that it actually harms productivity. I now know that deep plowing and intentionally creating larger soil clumps are crucial. Deep plowing allows roots to grow deeper, while the clumps are essential for the soil to retain moisture and nutrients. My old technique was a waste of energy because it failed to create these vital conditions for healthy plants.”

Similarly, Niyimurora Clotilde highlighted a new perspective she gained:

“Beyond understanding proper soil depth for planting, I learned the importance of crop rotation instead of mixing crops. Some crops can transmit diseases to others, so from now on, I will plant one type of seed at a time. This is something valuable I am taking home.”

By the end of the session, the farmers left with renewed motivation and practical strategies to enhance their yields while protecting their land. This training marked another step in the Village of Hope project’s mission to empower communities through knowledge and sustainable agricultural practices.
