MUBUGA, RWABICUMA, NYANZA DISTRICT – 7 August 2026 – As Rwanda marked Umuganura, the National Harvest Day, residents of Mubuga Cell in Rwabicuma Sector joined people across the country in giving thanks to God for the harvest and reaffirming their commitment to hard work, unity and sustainable community development.

The celebration brought together residents from Mubuga Cell’s four villages, local government leaders and development partners. The joyful gathering reflected the spirit of Umuganura: gratitude, shared prosperity and the values that strengthen communities.

The festivities began with an exhibition where development partners working in Mubuga presented their activities and the progress achieved with the community. The displays highlighted initiatives improving livelihoods through sustainable agriculture, livestock farming, economic empowerment and broader community development.

Dufatanye Organization showcased how its program support vulnerable households through climate-smart agriculture, livestock production and pathways to self-reliance. Through practical training and sustained community support, families are increasing agricultural productivity, strengthening food security and building more resilient livelihoods.

Community member Ntabudakeba Immaculee explained how Dufatanye Organization’s support has changed her family’s farming practices and livelihood. She said: “With Dufatanye Organization, no land is left unproductive. We now harvest large bunches of bananas, grow plenty of vegetables, and keep chickens and pigs. The knowledge and support we have received have enabled us to increase our production and improve our lives.”

Her testimony illustrates how practical knowledge, skills and opportunities can help communities become more productive and self-reliant.

During the celebration, Uwendanaseke Anastase, the officer responsible for administration at Rwabicuma Sector, commended residents for their dedication. He also acknowledged the contribution of development partners, particularly Dufatanye Organization, to improving the lives of local families.

He said: “As we celebrate Umuganura, let us continue learning and improving our harvests. Better lives come through hard work, and Dufatanye Organization has played an important role in helping us achieve this. We are fortunate to have the organization working alongside our community and making the journey towards prosperity easier. Happy Umuganura to everyone.”

His remarks highlighted the importance of collaboration among communities, local authorities and development organizations in creating lasting, sustainable change.
